Hungary’s first voco™ by IHG lifestyle hotel has opened

voco Budapest D8 welcomes guests to downtown Budapest with a new design and a revamped culinary concept
A new chapter is beginning in the history of one of Budapest’s best-known downtown lifestyle hotels: the comprehensive transformation of voco Budapest D8 has been completed, and from now on, the hotel will welcome guests entirely under the voco™ brand, a dynamically growing premium brand of IHG Hotels & Resorts. The rebranding further strengthens the hotel’s international standing while elevating Budapest’s four-star city hotel offerings to a new level for travelers seeking an experience-driven getaway. voco is one of IHG’s fastest-growing premium brands, combining international quality standards with distinctive personality, attentive and approachable hospitality, and contemporary design. True to the brand’s philosophy, voco Budapest D8 has retained its distinctive character throughout the renovation: the hotel’s relaxed, urban atmosphere is complemented by a sophisticated, Scandinavian-inspired interior design concept. The building thus serves as a stylish base in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw from the capital’s iconic landmarks, for modern explorers who wish to discover the authentic face of Budapest.
The completely renovated lobby and restaurant spaces were designed by the Finnish interior design studio Vertti&Co. The concept creates both bright, spacious communal areas and more intimate spaces suitable for quiet reflection. The subtle shades of gray, stucco-painted walls, warm woods, and clean architectural lines create a modern yet cozy atmosphere. The lobby’s capacity has also been expanded, and the redesigned bar further reinforces its role as a communal gathering place. The goal of the design was to make the communal spaces places for relaxation, connection, and shared experiences, while also reflecting the vibrant energy of Budapest.
The playful character of the voco brand is further enhanced by the bird motifs that appear throughout the hotel’s design, which also help guests find their way around the building. The bird symbols associated with each space—including the finch, the owl, and the flamingo—have now become defining elements of the hotel’s visual identity.
voco Budapest D8 welcomes guests with a total of 137 modern rooms in the cozy, standard, and premium categories, as well as rooms with terraces. The bright interiors with warm tones, elegant bathrooms, and well-thought-out functional solutions meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers. The voco brand also places special emphasis on a restful sleep experience, which has played a key role in the design of the rooms.
As part of the renovation, the hotel’s culinary offering has also been significantly enhanced. The fully upgraded kitchen now operates with a stronger food and beverage concept, expanded storage capacity and an open show kitchen service counter. In addition to breakfast, the restaurant serves a selection of bistro-style dishes from lunchtime onwards, allowing it to become a more active part of the neighbourhood’s everyday dining scene. This connection is further strengthened by the new terrace on Dorottya Street, seamlessly linking the hotel with the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Budapest.
Originally built in 2017, the hotel’s transformation reflects Budapest’s continuously evolving premium tourism landscape. As part of IHG’s global sales and loyalty network, voco Budapest D8 further increases the Hungarian capital’s visibility across European and international markets while offering a guest experience that brings travellers closer to the city’s authentic atmosphere and everyday rhythm.
„Our ambition throughout this transformation was to create a hotel that is internationally competitive while maintaining a welcoming, approachable atmosphere closely connected to the vibrant energy of Budapest and the expectations of today’s travellers. In recent years, Budapest has become one of Europe’s most exciting urban destinations, and voco Budapest D8 offers the ideal starting point for guests who wish to discover not only the city’s iconic landmarks but also its authentic local character. Thanks to voco’s warm, guest-focused approach, visitors can feel at home from the very moment they arrive, ” said Tamás Nehéz, General Manager of Verno House, Vignette Collection and voco Budapest D8, who oversees the operation of two IHG brands in Budapest.
