Patricius Winery has won international awards—its Tokaj wines have earned gold medals at four prestigious wine competitions

Patricius Winery earned international recognition as its Tokaji wines received gold medals at four of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions in Canada, London and Bordeaux. In 2026, the winery’s 2021 Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos and 2023 Furmint Selection won a total of five international gold medals.

Patricius Winery’s 2021 Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos has been awarded a gold medal at four internationally renowned wine competitions, each representing a distinct judging philosophy—an achievement that is considered exceptional even by international wine competition standards.
The wine received gold medals at Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux, the Volcanic Wine Awards in Canada, the International Wine Challenge in London, and the Decanter World Wine Awards. Widely regarded as the “Oscars of the wine world,” the Decanter World Wine Awards are the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. This year’s edition saw nearly 17,000 wines evaluated through blind tastings by 245 international wine experts and sommeliers from 35 countries.

Across these competitions, the 2021 Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos ranked among the highest-rated Tokaji wines. On the nose, ripe fruit aromas are complemented by delicate notes derived from barrel fermentation and ageing. On the palate, richness and elegance come together in remarkable harmony, supported by a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, pronounced minerality and a long, refined finish.

At the heart of Patricius Winery’s philosophy is showcasing the diversity of Tokaj’s unique terroir. Terroir is far more than a geographical location—it is the result of the complex interaction between climate, topography, exposure, soil, flora and fauna. Ultimately, however, it is the knowledge and expertise of the people behind the wines that make a terroir truly exceptional. The winery cultivates and vinifies grapes from six individual vineyards, preserving the unique character of each parcel throughout the winemaking and ageing process. When creating blends, complexity and harmony remain the guiding principles, while in exceptional vintages, the finest fruit is also released as single-vineyard wines.

The winery’s second award-winning wine this year, Patricius Tokaji Furmint Selection 2023, received a gold medal at the Challenge International du Vin, a competition with more than fifty years of history. Held annually in Bordeaux, the competition is distinguished by its diverse jury, bringing together winemakers, wine merchants, industry experts and experienced wine enthusiasts to evaluate wines from around the world. o ensure complete impartiality, every wine is tasted blind. Bottles are wrapped in identical black fabric sleeves and served in specially designed competition glasses, guaranteeing anonymity throughout the judging process and reinforcing the competition’s reputation for fairness and credibility.
